A self professed EMS Nerd I have  been an EMS provider for 27 years as I started when I was just 2 years old. I am currently the EMS Division Chief for the Camas-Washougal Fire Department in SW Washington. I believe there is no such thing as good enough when it comes to patient care or that you can ever stop learning. 

Brian Beldowicz
MD

Brian C. Beldowicz, MD, came to the Legacy Medical Group after 17 years of active duty service as a surgeon in the US Army. From 2009-2012 he was assigned to Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany where his team helped provide care for all combat casualties evacuated from both Iraq and Afghanistan. Upon returning to the US in 2012, he was assigned to the Joint Medical Augmentation Unit of Joint Special Operations Command and has served on multiple combat deployments to Iraq, Syria, and Afghanistan. Dr. Beldowicz has a Master’s Degree in Bioethics & Health Policy and is a member of the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma.

Andrea Sjaardema
FP-C/ NREMT-P/FF

Andrea Sjaardema Zickmund, FP-C/ NREMT-P/FF, has been working in EMS for 19 yrs. She has worked at every level from EMT through Flight Paramedic. She is known as the black cloud in all the busy 911 systems she has worked, as a lead paramedic. She has been teaching in EMS programs since 2007. She has worked in the helicopter and fixed wing environment, and she currently works for Franciscan EMS as the Critical Care EMS Educator and critical care paramedic on the ground service. She also works for Laporte County EMS as a Paramedic. She owns her own CPR instruction business and is an expert content author for Vector Solutions, building online learning courses. Andrea has a passion for teaching and working as a paramedic.

Christopher Ebright
Lead Instructor

Chris Ebright is the Lead Instructor for The University of Toledo EMS Program, where he provides all aspects of primary EMS education in-house, as well as continuing education for numerous EMS services within Toledo and Northwest Ohio. Chris has been a Nationally Registered paramedic for 29 years, providing primary EMS response and critical care transportation. He has educated hundreds of first responders, EMT’s, paramedics, and nurses with his trademark whiteboard sessions, including students from the Cayman Islands, India, and Australia. Chris is also a recurring article contributor to the Limmer Education website, and has been a featured presenter at numerous local, state, and national EMS conferences over the past 17 years.

Courtney Temple
MD

Bio: Courtney Temple is an Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine at Oregon Health & Science University, as well as core faculty at the Oregon Poison Center and OHSU Medical Toxicology Fellowship. Originally from the East Coast, she completed both medical school and residency at the University of Massachusetts. Dr. Temple has interests in both Emergency Medicine and toxicology, particularly in the areas of pesticides, chemical weapons and the growth of new psychoactive substances. In her personal time she enjoys baking, climbing and spending time outdoors.

Ann Rust
MD, FACS

Ann Rust, MD, FACS is currently employed with the Good Shepherd Health Care System in Hermiston, Oregon. She is an experienced general surgeon, specializing in laparoscopic surgeries and women’s health. She also provides trauma surgery services at Good Shepherd and is passionate about providing high quality care in the rural setting. Dr. Rust attended medical school at Creighton University School of Medicine in Omaha, Nebraska. She also completed both her family practice and general surgery residencies through Creighton University.

Erin Horrax
BSN, RN, CCRN Burn Outreach Coordinator

Erin Horrax has been a nurse for 13 years, 11 of those years have been at the Oregon Burn Center. She has been a bedside burn nurse on both days and nights, a primary charge nurse, the clinical nurse educator of the unit and now is the Regional Burn Outreach Coordinator. She is passionate about the burn patient population and is always eager to share the specialty with the region.

Title: Caring for the Burn Patient – Legacy Oregon Burn Center

Class description: 60 min presentation providing an overview of caring for the burn patient. Starting with initial treatment immediately after injury to a discussion of priorities during transport to the Oregon Burn Center. Real patient scenarios will be used with pictures to provide examples of the type of burn patients our region sees.

Jim Bolton
Senior Instructor

Jim fell in love with the fire service as a student while pursuing a fire fighter opportunity in college. His 36 year career began as a fire fighter with the City of Astoria Oregon, and then on the City of Bend, Oregon Fire and Rescue, Deschutes County, Oregon Search and Rescue, Jefferson County Oregon Search and Rescue, City of Reno, Nevada Fire Department, United States Virgin Islands Fire and EMS, and his current position with the City of Pendleton, Oregon Fire and Ambulance.

Qualifications include Master Instructor Certification State of Nevada, Rope Rescue, Confined Space Rescue, Trench Rescue, Structural Collapse Rescue, Paramedic, REM, Swift water Rescue, Hazardous Materials Technician, Vehicle Rescue Technician, and a B.S. in Emergency Services Management.

Jim currently teaches CMC’s open enrollment and contract Rope Rescue Technician and Confined Space classes. When asked what he likes about teaching CMC classes, he replied, “I love the opportunity to meet and assist many people in learning new skills and/or polishing up their existing skills. Really enjoy advising and assisting others in developing their teams to meet the needs of their community as well as offering a perspective to assist them with, sometimes, very specific rescue challenges within their AHJ.” Jim also enjoys the research and testing opportunities and ability to network with others in the rescue industry.

Willy Giddings
Captain/Paramedic

Started as a Volunteer Firefighter with Sheridan Fire District fall of 1995. Got my Paramedic in December 1997. I worked for Pacific County Fire District #1 in WA from March 1998 until April 2001. I started with the Salem Fire Department on April 1 st 2001 and currently work at Station 11 as a Haz-Mat Captain. State certified Haz-Mat Technician since 2004 for Region 13 Haz-Mat Team. I got promoted to Engineer in November 2005 and worked for two years as EMS Trainer then promoted to Captain in August 2019. From March of 2006 till May 2012, I worked for St Charles Medical Center as their Training Center Coordinator/EMT Program Administrator managing their ACLS, PALS, PHTLS and BLS classes for the hospital. This included managing 150+ instructors scattered throughout the state and managing EMT classes in rural Central and Eastern Oregon as far south as Klamath Falls and as far East as Baker City. In May of 2012 I was offered a position as an Education Service Specialist with Laerdal Medical based out of Norway teaching medical simulation to various Universities, Colleges, Hospitals, Fire Departments, Medical Schools and Ambulance Services all over the United States and Canada. I continued with Laerdal Medical until 2017. While I was working as the TC Coordinator, I started my own business Training 4 Responders LLC in 2008 which I still run today teaching numerous Fire, Haz-Mat and EMT classes in Oregon, Washington and Alaska.

Tyler Christifulli
Flight Paramedic/Preceptor

Tyler Christifulli is a flight paramedic/preceptor for Life Link III in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He is also the co-creator and 3D animator for FOAMfrat Studio, an online streaming platform that provides continuing education for EMS and nursing. Coming up on 15 years in EMS, Tyler is focused on innovating how we teach emergency and critical care medicine.

Mark Widlund
Paramedic/FF

Mark is a Firefighter/Paramedic with the Camas/Washougal Fire Department. Mark began his career in healthcare as a volunteer FF at Clark County Fire District 3, then pursued his paramedic certification while a resident EMT at North Country EMS. Mark is also passionate about disaster medicine.  He was a federal responder with the NDMS Trauma Critical Care Team (TCCT) and is currently a Supply Management Specialist on the HHS Logistics Response Assistance Team (LRAT). Mark graduated from Clark College with an Associates of Arts and attended the Oregon Health & Science University Paramedic Program.

Michael Atkinson
BSN, RN, CCRN, CBRN

Bio: Michael Atkinson, BSN, RN, CCRN, CBRN has been a nurse for 15 years, the last 10 and a half years at the Legacy Oregon Burn Center in Portland. He has been a charge nurse on the night shift since 2018. Michael became an ABLS Instructor in 2017 and has taught regularly with a break for the COVID year. With the retirement this year of Curtis Ryan, the long-standing Outreach Educator, Michael moved into the ABLS Coordinator role. He also fills the role of ABLS National Faculty which allows for training of new ABLS Instructors. Michael holds certifications in critical care through the AACN and as a Certified Burn Registered Nurse (CBRN), a new certification for burn center staff. He has also taught clinical nursing to BSN students through Linfield University.
